A Letter from the Artistic Director
Starry Night Repertory Theatre has just completed ten years of operation. We celebrate this decade of artistic achievement and delight in the joy we have brought to our audiences.
However, the company has reached a crossroads and the Board of Directors has decided to suspend production for one year.
The realities are that the company needs a permanent home and a stable talent pool for both onstage and backstage work. The current diminishing trend in enrollments and faculty positions at Western Illinois University is affecting the population of Macomb and the support for local businesses. For Starry Night, this has meant that it is ever harder to find both the people who want to work in theatre and the people who can find the time and resources to attend the theatre. As our production costs (for space, royalties for scripts, equipment) continue to increase, the ability for our audience to pay for an arts experience has decreased.
The company will continue, but no productions will be mounted during the 2019-2020 season. Instead, the year will be spent in developing strategies for future growth and new initiatives.
We want to take this opportunity to thank our private donors, the Theatre and Dance Department and School of Music at Western Illinois University, and the Two Rivers Arts Council for their essential support over these ten fine years.
We will continue to maintain our website and Facebook page and will be sure to keep the community informed of the future directions for Starry Night Repertory Theatre.
Jeannie Woods, Artistic Director & President of the Board
